Calums Maths Page
I am Calum. I am quite good at maths. I mostly like statistics and problem solving. I am 12 years old.
We are learning about time and temperature. I would like to learn more about converting centigrade to farinheight and vice versa.
Today I learned about time in a figure it out book (FIO)
We are learning about different time zones around the world and how to calculate time differences.
Time zones are each 1 hour apart. They are there because it wouldn't make sense if the local time was 11.00am but it was the middle of the night. The greenwich mean time is the central time which runs right through London. There are 24 timezones across the world. I have learnt that each time zone has a name. Us in New Zealand are Mike.
GRAPHING
Graphing is an easy way to:
Organise information clearly,
Give answers to questions,
Tell people what to do,
And help people with modern day life.
Graphing is one of the most effective ways to collect and present data.
Steps to making a effective graph:
Decide what information you want to show,
Collect the data using a tally chart, stem and leaf graph ,or dot plots.
Choose the right graph for YOUR information.
Give the graph a title
Give the graph lables on X and Y axis
Put the information into the graph
Reflect on your data, what does it show?
Write a conclusion on what the data shows.
Cluster is a group of data in one area. A cluster would usually be used for plots O Trend is a group of data that are the same. These are mostly found in bar graphs. Multiviriate data is data that has more than one variable. Variables are data that has same topic but is a different surveying item. Sample is a piece of data that is used to practice. Surveying is when you are recording your data. Patterns in data is where you can find groups of data that are in a pattern. Relationship in data is when there is a some "connection" between to pieces of data. Tally chart keeps a tally of how many things you are doing statistics on. Frequency table shows the frequency of the data.
Pictograph is a graph used in pictures instead of bars. Bar graph is a graph is where the data is shown in bars.
There are four types of bar graphs, column graph, double bar graph, vertical bar graph and hystogram. Histogram is the only bar graph thats is joined at every bit of data. Strip graph is a graph that is a strip that is used for dividing data. Pie graph is a circle where it is seperated into data for each specific thing. Youwould use a Pie graph when doing data on eye colour. Dot plot is a graph that uses dots for a specific thing eg. progress in class. Dot plots usually have clusters. Stem and leaf graphshave a stem and numbers come off the stem. Scatterplot is data that is placed on a graph using co-ordinates. Box and whisker plot is used to find out the upper and lower quartiles. Line graph would be used in data about height and weight. The mean is all the numbers added up and then divided by the amount of numbers in the series. The median is the middle number, when all the numbers are put in numerical order. The mode is the value that is surveyed the most. The range is when the numbers are put in numerical order and the difference between the lowest and highest numbers
